Fiber Artist

“Artistically, I am inspired by historical artists like Klimt, Monet and van Gogh. I find everyday inspiration from movies, textiles, pop culture and recycled items — especially kitschy 1950s items.”

Theodore Stumpf of Artiste de Fibre is an avid fiber artist who works professionally in the theater costume industry. He has studied costume design, crafts, millinery, wig design, and fabric painting and dyeing. Over the past 10 years, he has built a successful shop on Etsy selling primarily holiday stockings and pillows made from neckties. He also creates quilts and fabric sculptures when he has time. Theodore received the 2003, 2005 and 2006 Howard C. Payne Memorial Award for Innovation in Fiber from the Springwater Fiber Workshop in Washington, D.C.
