In January 2020, the Guthrie Theater began convening with a group of Minnesota-based Native artists, now known as the Native Advisory Council. Together, the NAC advises the theater on projects, initiatives and philosophical questions as we work to be in better relationship with the people whose land the Guthrie is on.

THE DESIGN
“You are on Native land” features a design by NAC member Adrienne Zimiga-January (Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe). The lodges with yellow arrows represent that we are all still here and on Dakota land. The medicine crosses represent the resilience of our ancestors as well as the healing and recognition of our tribal communities.

GIVING BACK
All proceeds from these thoughtfully designed items go to the Minneapolis American Indian Center, a community center in the heart of the American Indian community of Minneapolis. Founded in 1975 and one of the oldest Indian centers in the country, they provide educational and social services to more than 10,000 members of the community annually and work to preserve and support American Indian cultural traditions through art, youth and intergenerational programs.
